Mentoring Opportunities
Looking for an uplifting and exciting mentor opportunity?
Position Description:
Are you passionate about empowering young people and making a difference in your community? The empowHER Leadership Retreat is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated mentors to guide and inspire students in 4th–9th grade during this three-day leadership retreat. Students will receive a $300 stipend for serving as a mentor.
Who We’re Looking For:
- MSU students who are at least 18
- Individuals who are reliable, positive role models
- Those who enjoy mentoring, listening, and facilitating engaging discussions with 4-9th grade students
Mentor Responsibilities:
- Guide a team of 10-15 young people throughout the day
- Facilitate discussions and debrief breakout sessions
- Ensure your team stays focused, engaged, and safe
- Follow all university policies and procedures
- Attend a mandatory training session before the event (dates will be provided soon)
Time Commitment:
- Training/Orientation: (week of July 7-11, Times TBD)
- Event Date: Tuesday, July 15th – Thursday, July 17th
- Mentor Arrival: 6:45 AM – 7:15 AM
- Participant Check-in: 7:30 AM
- Event Duration: 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM

How to Apply:
Submit your application through Handshake by April 1, 2025. Be sure to include a resume and a cover letter that speaks to your skills, abilities, and interest in serving as a mentor. A background check is required to officially accept the role, and mentors must commit to the three-event day and training session.
